The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) recently issued an Urgent Official Telegram No. 1263/CD-BNN-TY addressed to the provinces and relevant agencies regarding the enhancement of avian influenza (AI) prevention and control measures, aiming to prevent the entry of A/H7N9 influenza virus and other dangerous influenza strains into Vietnam.
Currently, in China, the epidemic situation is extremely dangerous with 621 deaths caused by the A/H7N9 virus. Coupled with cold weather conditions, high humidity, and other factors, the disease may spread to Vietnam. Therefore, the Ministry directs:
- Strictly prohibit the transportation, trading, slaughtering, and consumption of poultry and poultry products of unclear origin, and illegally imported poultry across the border;- Encourage poultry farmers to purchase breeds from reputable domestic facilities that have undergone quarantine; consumers should only buy poultry and poultry products with clear origins and especially avoid eating raw duck blood pudding;- Review and promptly plan poultry trading and slaughtering areas, organize sanitation, disinfection, and develop plans to close poultry markets when influenza viruses appear.
