On May 25, 2017, the Government of Vietnam enacted Decree 69/2017/ND-CP stipulating the functions, tasks, powers, and new organizational structure of the Ministry of Education and Training.

adjusting the organizational structure of the Ministry of Education and Training as follows:

- Abolished:- Department of Training with Foreign Countries;- Representative Office of the Ministry in Ho Chi Minh City;- Department of Vocational Education;- Department of International Cooperation.

- Added:- Department of Physical Education;- Department of Emulation and Commendation;- Department of International Cooperation.

- Renamed:- Department of National Defense Education to Department of National Defense and Security Education;- Department of Student Affairs to Department of Political Education and Student Affairs;- Department of Testing and Quality Assurance in Education to Department of Quality Management;- Department of School Facilities and Equipment, and Children's Toys to Department of Infrastructure.

Additionally, some duties and powers of the Ministry of Education and Training are amended and supplemented.

Decree 69/2017/ND-CP is effective from the date of signing and promulgation, replacing Decree 32/2008/ND-CP.
