Recently, the Ministry of Transport issued Circular No. 43/2018/TT-BGTVT stipulating the compulsory pilotage zones (hereinafter referred to as pilotage zones). Accordingly:

Currently, Vietnam has 8 pilotage zones as follows:

- Pilotage zone from Quang Ninh to Nam Dinh;- Pilotage zone from Thanh Hoa to Quang Tri;- Pilotage zone from Thua Thien Hue to Quang Ngai;- Pilotage zone from Binh Dinh to Phu Yen;- Pilotage zone from Khanh Hoa to Ninh Thuan;- Pilotage zone covering the territories of Binh Thuan, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Long An, Ho Chi Minh City, and provinces along the Tien River;- Pilotage zone covering the provinces and cities along the Hau River, and the provinces of Tra Vinh, Bac Lieu, Kien Giang, Ca Mau;- Pilotage zone in offshore oil and gas exploitation areas within Vietnamese waters.

See details about the operation of mandatory maritime pilotage zones at Circular 43/2018/TT-BGTVT issued on August 1, 2018. This Circular comes into effect on October 1, 2018, replacing Circular 58/2011/TT-BGTVT.
