Vietnam: Failure to discharge wastewater at the locations shall be fined up to VND 120 million

The Government of Vietnam issued Decree No. 33/2017/NĐ-CP on penalties for administrative violations against regulations on water and mineral resources.

According to Decree No. 33/2017/NĐ-CP of Vietnam’s Government on penalties for administrative violations against regulations on water and mineral resources effective from May 20, 2017, a fine ranging from VND 100,000,000 to VND 120,000,000 (a fine ranging from VND 30,000,000 to VND 50,000,000 according to current regulations) shall be imposed for any of the following violations: Failure to discharge wastewater at the locations/coordinates prescribed in the license; Failure to discharge wastewater into water bodies according to the methods prescribed in the license.

Moreover, production facility owners who commit the above violations may also be subject to additional fines and remedial measures: Suspend the license to discharge wastewater into water bodies for 03 - 06 months; Enforced implementation of remedial measures to combat the pollution, degradation and/or depletion of water resources if any of violations is committed resulting in the pollution and/or degradation of water quality and quantity.
