This is a notable content mentioned by the Minister of Transport in Circular 40/2014/TT-BGTVT issuing the National Technical Regulations on Engines used for Electric Bicycles and the National Technical Regulations on Batteries used for Electric Bicycles.
To be specific, in QCVN 75:2014/BGTVT “National Technical Regulation on Motors Used for Electric Bicycles,” issued together with Circular 40/2014/TT-BGTVT, there are specific regulations on technical requirements for the direct current (DC) motor used for electric bicycles as follows:
- General Requirements
- The structure and technical parameters of the electric motor must comply with the manufacturer's registration and this regulation.- The surface of the electric motor must not rust, have cracks, or peel off paint; fixed parts must always be secure.- The nominal voltage and nominal power must be marked on visible parts after the electric motor has been fully assembled.
- The nominal voltage of the electric motor must not exceed 48 V.- Motor Power: When tested according to 2.2.3, the maximum power must not exceed 250 W. Permissible deviation is ± 5% of the registered value.- Motor Efficiency: When tested according to 2.2.3, the efficiency of the electric motor must not be less than 75%.- Overload capability: After testing according to 2.2.4, the electric motor must operate normally.- Insulation
- After testing as per 2.2.5.1, the electric motor must operate normally.- Insulation resistance between coil and motor casing:- When tested according to 2.2.5.2, the insulation resistance between the coil and the motor casing must not be less than 100 MW.
- Temperature rise: After testing according to 2.2.6, the temperature rise of the coil must not exceed 65 °C, and the motor casing must not exceed 60 °C.- Protection level of the motor casing: When tested according to 2.2.7, the electric motor must be protected against water jets and the intrusion of solid objects with a diameter greater than 1 mm.- Axial clearance: When tested according to 2.2.8, the axial clearance of the motor shaft must not exceed 0.5 mm.
Note: This regulation applies to manufacturers, assemblers, and importers of electric motors; manufacturers and assemblers of electric bicycles; and entities and organizations related to the management, testing, and certification of technical safety quality.
