Requirements for Light Transmission of Eye Protection Devices during Welding

At the end of 2016, the Ministry of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs signed and issued Circular 49/2016/TT-BLDTBXH, promulgating the national technical regulations for personal eye protection equipment used in welding work.

The personal eye protection equipment used in welding must meet the following optical transmission requirements:

- The change in optical transmission must be measured by projecting a light beam with a diameter of 5 mm onto the entire surface of the light filter except for a 5 mm wide edge.- The optical transmission requirements for light filters used in welding and related techniques are stipulated in Table 1, Section 2 of TCVN 5083:1990.- Additional requirements:- For wavelengths in the range of 210 nm to 313 nm, the optical transmission must not exceed the permissible value for 313 nm.- For wavelengths in the range of 313 nm to 365 nm, the optical transmission must not exceed the permissible value for 365 nm.- For wavelengths in the range of 365 nm to 400 nm, the optical transmission must not exceed the average light transmission tv.

More details can be found in Circular 49/2016/TT-BLDTBXH effective from August 1, 2017.
