Regulations on Combined Stress of Pressure Vessels in Transportation Means

The Ministry of Transport promulgates Circular 32/2017/TT-BGTVT on the National Technical Regulation on pressure equipment on transport vehicles and means, equipment for exploration and exploitation at sea.

According to Circular 32, the following stresses, when possible at the same time, must be checked according to the procedure:

- Circumferential stresses created by internal or external pressure.- Longitudinal tensile stresses created by internal pressure.- Tensile or compressive stresses created by axial loads due to deceleration forces equal to twice the static weight of the fully loaded container.- Tensile or compressive stresses created by bending moments due to deceleration forces equal to twice the static weight of the fully loaded container.- For containers with internal baffles, the deceleration force may be reduced by ‘0.25g’ for each baffle but not exceed ‘1g.’- Tensile or compressive stresses created by axial loads due to acceleration forces equal to the static weight of the fully loaded container.- Tensile or compressive stresses created by bending moments due to acceleration forces equal to the static weight of the fully loaded container.- Tensile or compressive stresses created by bending moments due to vertical forces equal to three times the static weight of the fully loaded container.- Shear stresses created by vertical forces equal to three times the static weight of the container and its contents.- Side shear stresses created by lateral acceleration forces that can cause tipping but not less than 0.75 times the static weight of the fully loaded container acting on the roadway.- Torsional shear stresses created by lateral acceleration forces that can cause tipping but not less than 0.75 times the static weight of the fully loaded container acting on the roadway.

More details can be found in Circular 32/2017/TT-BGTVT effective from April 1, 2018.
