Prohibition on Abbreviating the Names of Medicinal Herbs in Traditional Medicine

Accordingly, Circular 01 stipulates the following notes when prescribing traditional medicine:

- Write the exact and clear Vietnamese name of the medicine; for traditional medicinal herbs, write the commonly used name, clearly stating the dosage and unit of measurement. Do not abbreviate the names of traditional medicines;- Specify clearly the dosage, method of use, and route of administration;- For prescribing traditional medicinal herbs during inpatient treatment, if there is no change in treatment indication and the prescribed formula remains unchanged, it is allowed to re-prescribe by writing “Prescription or medicine formula of day, month, year” and only permitted to re-prescribe once;- Provide specific instructions on how to decoct the medicine, how to take the medicine, and the time to take the medicine;- For traditional pharmaceutical products produced by medical examination and treatment establishments, write according to the name approved for internal circulation by the competent authority; for medicines circulated nationwide, write the name of the medicine according to the name registered with the Ministry of Health;- In cases where the prescriber prescribes a traditional medicine in an overdose compared to the Ministry of Health’s professional procedures, treatment guidelines, or modifies any content, the prescriber must sign for confirmation next to the modification.
