Professional Standards for Teachers in the Era of Integration

Recently, the Ministry of Education and Training issued Circular 20/2018/TT-BGDDT stipulating the professional standards for teachers of general education institutions.

According to the new regulations, the professional standards for teachers include 5 standards accompanied by 15 criteria, compared to Circular 30/2009/TT-BGDDT, which had 6 standards and 25 criteria. However, Circular 20 introduces new content for the standards, specifically:

- Standard 1: Teacher's ethics;- Standard 2: Professional development;- Standard 3: Creating an educational environment;- Standard 4: Developing relationships between schools, families, and society;- Standard 5: Using foreign languages or ethnic languages, applying information technology, and utilizing technological devices in teaching and education.

Additionally, the Circular provides various levels for evaluating each criterion within the different standards, for example:

For Standard 1: Teacher's ethics

Criterion 1: Teacher's morality:

- Acceptable level: Strictly adhering to regulations on teacher's morality;- Fair level: Having a spirit of self-study, self-improvement, and striving to enhance teacher's morality;- Good level: Being an exemplary model in teacher's morality; sharing experiences and supporting colleagues in improving teacher's morality.

Criterion 2: Teacher's style

- Acceptable level: Having appropriate manners and working methods suited to the tasks of a general education teacher;- Fair level: Being conscious of self-training to create an exemplary teacher style; having a positive influence on students;- Good level: Being an exemplary model in teacher's style; having a positive influence and supporting colleagues in developing a teacher's style.
