Prescribers of Traditional Medicine Must Hold a Practicing Certificate

This is one of the regulations on the conditions for prescribers and the scope of traditional medicine prescriptions stipulated in Circular 01/2016/TT-BYT issued by the Ministry of Health on February 18, 2016.

conditions for prescription providers and the scope of traditional medicine prescriptions, combining traditional medicine with modern medicine, as prescribed by Circular 01 are as follows:

- The prescription provider must be practicing at a legitimate medical examination and treatment facility and must possess a medical practice certificate as stipulated by the law on medical examination and treatment.- Specialized traditional medicine doctors and traditional medicine-oriented physicians are permitted to prescribe all forms of traditional medicine and to combine prescriptions of traditional medicine with modern medicine within their area of professional practice.- General practitioners, other specialists, and general practice physicians may only prescribe finished traditional medicine products when combining traditional medicine.- Traditional medicine physicians working at State district-level medical examination and treatment facilities or commune-level health stations, and healthcare institutions of agencies and schools are permitted to prescribe all forms of traditional medicine appropriate to their professional scope of practice.- Traditional medicine physicians working in areas with difficult or especially difficult socio-economic conditions where doctors are not available are permitted to prescribe traditional medicine in combination with modern medicine after being assigned in writing by the Director or head of the medical examination and treatment facility.- Traditional medicine practitioners may only prescribe traditional medicine within their professional scope of practice and are not permitted to prescribe a combination of traditional medicine with modern medicine.- Individuals with proprietary remedies may only prescribe those remedies which have been certified by a competent authority as per regulations.
