New Points on the Organization and Duties of the Infection Control Council

To avoid that situation, the State has issued numerous regulations to ensure safety in medical facilities, one of which is Circular 16/2018/TT-BYT on infection control in healthcare establishments.

According to Circular 16, the Infection Control Council is organized and performs the following duties:

Organization:

- The Infection Control Council is established by the head of the healthcare establishment.- The Chairman of the Infection Control Council is the Director.- The Secretary of the Infection Control Council is the head of the infection control department or the person assigned the duty of infection control.- Members of the Infection Control Council include representatives of the leadership from clinical, paraclinical departments, and functional units. These must include leaders from the functional units, microbiology/laboratory departments, the pharmacy department, and some clinical departments with a high risk of hospital infections.

Duties:

- Advise the Director on infection control within the healthcare establishment and on the repair, design, and new construction of medical structures within the establishment in accordance with infection control.- Participate in supervising, training, and conducting scientific research on infection control.- Review, evaluate, and guide the implementation of infection control in the establishment.

Circular 16/2018/TT-BYT came into effect on October 1, 2018, replacing Circular 18/2009/TT-BYT.
