On May 15, 2024, the Minister of Public Security issued Circular 16/2024/TT-BCA which stipulates the templates for ID cards and identification certificates.

In this context, the Ministry of Public Security has announced the official ID card template specified under the Law on Identification 2023 which will be applied from July 1, 2024.

Specifically, the design of the official ID card template specified under the Law on Identification 2023 is stipulated as follows:

(1) Both sides of the ID card feature a background with green patterns transitioning from the center's yellow hue to green. The front side's background includes a map of Vietnam, bronze drums, traditional decorative patterns, and other motifs. The back side's background features patterns combined with lotus images and interwoven diagonal lines.

(2) The national emblem of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the photo of the cardholder (for those aged 6 and above) are directly printed in color on the card. The national emblem's diameter is 12mm; the cardholder's photo measures 20mm x 30mm; the QR code's position is 18mm x 18mm.

(3) The color scheme for the information on the ID card:

• Blue for the texts: CỘNG HÒA XÃ HỘI CHỦ NGHĨA VIỆT NAM, Độc lập - Tự do - Hạnh phúc; SOCIALIST REPUBLIC OF VIET NAM, Independence - Freedom - Happiness; ID card; Số định danh cá nhân/Personal identification number; Họ, chữ đệm và tên khai sinh/Full name; Ngày, tháng, năm sinh/Date of birth; Giới tính/Sex; Quốc tịch/Nationality; Nơi cư trú/Place of residence; Nơi đăng ký khai sinh/Place of birth; Ngày, tháng, năm cấp/Date of issue; Ngày, tháng, năm hết hạn/Date of expiry; BỘ CÔNG AN/MINISTRY OF PUBLIC SECURITY and the electronic chip symbol;

• Red for the text CĂN CƯỚC;

• Black for: Personal identification number; cardholder's information; date of issue; expiry date; QR code; MRZ line.

(4) The front side of the card for Vietnamese citizens under 6 years old includes the following information:

From left to right, top to bottom: The national emblem of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam; the texts: CỘNG HÒA XÃ HỘI CHỦ NGHĨA VIỆT NAM, Độc lập - Tự do - Hạnh phúc; SOCIALIST REPUBLIC OF VIET NAM, Independence - Freedom - Happiness; the text CĂN CƯỚC; ID card; electronic chip symbol; Personal identification number/Số định danh cá nhân; Full name/Họ, chữ đệm và tên khai sinh; Date of birth/Ngày, tháng, năm sinh; Sex/Giới tính; Nationality/Quốc tịch.

(5) The front side of the card for Vietnamese citizens aged 6 and above includes the following information:

From left to right, top to bottom: The national emblem of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam; the texts: CỘNG HÒA XÃ HỘI CHỦ NGHĨA VIỆT NAM, Độc lập - Tự do - Hạnh phúc; SOCIALIST REPUBLIC OF VIET NAM, Independence - Freedom - Happiness; the text CĂN CƯỚC; ID card; electronic chip symbol; cardholder's photo; Personal identification number/Số định danh cá nhân; Full name/Họ, chữ đệm và tên khai sinh; Date of birth/Ngày, tháng, năm sinh; Sex/Giới tính; Nationality/Quốc tịch.

(6) The back side of the card for Vietnamese citizens under 6 years old, and for those aged 6 and above, includes the following information from top to bottom, left to right:

• Place of residence/Nơi cư trú;

• Place of birth registration/Nơi đăng ký khai sinh;

• Electronic chip;

• QR code;

• Date of issue/Ngày, tháng, năm cấp;

• Expiry date/Ngày, tháng, năm hết hạn;

• MINISTRY OF PUBLIC SECURITY/BỘ CÔNG AN;

• MRZ line.

Regarding the shape, dimensions, and material of the ID card

• The ID card is rectangular, 53.98mm wide, 85.6mm long, 0.76mm thick, and the four corners are rounded with a radius of 3.18mm.

• The ID card is made from plastic material.
