Four Principles for Ensuring the Security of Radioactive Sources under the New Regulation

On May 30, 2019, the Ministry of Science and Technology issued Circular 01/2019/TT-BKHCN stipulating regulations on ensuring the security of radioactive sources.

According to the provisions of Circular 01/2019/TT-BKHCN, the security of radioactive sources must be ensured based on the following principles:

- The head of an organization or individual possessing radioactive sources bears the highest responsibility for ensuring the security of radioactive sources.- The security requirements for radioactive sources must match the level of danger posed by such sources.- The security of radioactive sources must be maintained throughout the source's lifecycle until it reaches the exemption level for reporting and applying for a license to conduct radiation work as stipulated in the National Technical Regulation QCVN 5:2010/BKHCN on Radiation Safety - Reporting Exemption and Licensing, issued along with Circular 15/2010/TT-BKHCN.- Safety and security measures for radioactive sources must be considered from the stage of preparing the dossier requesting a license to conduct radiation work to ensure these measures support each other and do not adversely affect one another.

More details can be found in Circular 01/2019/TT-BKHCN, effective from July 15, 2019.
