06 Specialized Topics in Basic Knowledge of Language and Culture of the Thai Ethnic Group

Circular 34/2015/TT-BGDDT stipulates the content of basic knowledge about the Thai ethnic language and culture comprising 06 specialized topics, in which Topics 1, 2, and 3 present the basic knowledge group about the Thai language - characteristics of the Thai language in comparison with the Vietnamese language; Topics 4, 5, and 6 present the basic knowledge group about Thai culture and literature. Specifically, each topic is outlined as follows:

Topic 1: Phonetics and script of the Thai language - basic characteristics of Thai phonetics and script in comparison with the Vietnamese language; Dialects in the Thai language:

+ Sounds and letters; Tone marks, pitch; Syllable and syllable structure; Vowel harmony; Some vowels with synonymous meanings; Special characters; Difficult-to-pronounce words and phrases.

+ Dialects and handling dialectal phenomena in teaching the Thai language.

Topic 2: Vocabulary - semantics of the Thai language - basic characteristics of Thai vocabulary - semantics in comparison with Vietnamese:

+ Words and methods of Thai word formation; Local words and borrowed words.

+ Word meanings; Rhetorical devices in the Thai language.

Topic 3: Thai grammar - basic characteristics of Thai grammar in comparison with the Vietnamese language:

+ Speech etiquettes (greetings, thanks, apologies) in the Thai language.

+ Thai grammatical methods:Single words, compound words; Nouns, verbs, adjectives, pronouns (personal, interrogative); Words (onomatopoeia, borrowed words, polysemous words, homonyms, synonyms, antonyms);

Sentences and structure of some simple sentence patterns (simple sentences, questions); Some supplementary sentence components; Compound sentences and some conjunction pairs linking the clauses within compound sentences.

Topic 4: Some characteristics of natural, economic, and social conditions of the Thai ethnic region.

Topic 5: Thai ethnic culture - distinctive, fundamental features of Thai culture (beliefs, religion, customs, practices, architecture, cuisine, clothing, music, etc.).

Topic 6: Thai literature - distinctive, fundamental characteristics of Thai literature (folk literature, written literature).
